I am outta control!

Groomzilla...NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!! There's a story about that name...

On June 25, 2011 I will no longer be a single man. That is because I will be walking down the aisle to marry my best friend, the woman of my dreams, at approximately 3:20pm. I know you're probably saying awwwwwwww, isn't that sweet, and it is!

Growing up in America, we are ingrained at a very young age that a WEDDING is for the Bride. We're told, it's her day. After all, she's wearing the big dress with the long train, she gets to be the guest of honor by being late, she finds the ugliest bridesmaid dresses ever so that she stands out, then to top all of this, she gets to walk down the aisle by herself while her own personal soundtrack is being played (The Wedding March).

So, when I proposed to my fiance, I knew what to expect, but little did I know what I was in for!

During my final year of grad school, I returned back to Lubbock, Texas after the semester break, to learn that I was one of three other individuals who had also gotten engaged. The difference is that both people had decided with their partners that they would be getting married that same year, 2008.

As I stated earlier, I am AMERICAN, so I knew exactly how our society has socially constructed me to participate in the wedding planning process. After much thought and deliberation, I decided to take a friendly stroll down to the local bookstores (Borders and Barnes and Nobel) to see what I could find. I stumbled across two AMAZING Books, "The Everything Groom Book: A Survival Guide For Men," and "The Groom's Gameplan."

Through a combination of my reading, as well as information shared with me by two of my colleagues, I'd be excited and wanted to share the info with my fiance. This continued for several months until the day when she was finally frustrated with all of the pre wedding talk and decided to call me a "GROOMZILLA!"

Now for those who know me, both of my parents are people who are "go-getters!" That same passion, drive, and sense of planning and preparation are skills that come natural to me. Its not that I was trying to be rude, or overtake the wedding...As I said, I live in America, plus, I had books that told me how to help without being in the way. This was the day that I "FELL BACK!" I put my books aside, stopped the wedding talk, and decided that I'd not be as active as I had anticipated.

So after three years, two adjusted wedding dates, we are officially three months away today.

Over the next three months I'll post as a way to document and remember all of the wonderful memories from all the planning for what will be the best day in my life. I hope you enjoy the ride!
